The FEOC rules come into effect in 2024 for completed batteries and 2025 for critical minerals used to produce them. The rules are expected to further reduce the number of electric vehicles eligible for EV tax credits. AUBURN HILLS, Mich. (AP) — Automaker Stellantis on Wednesday announced a recall of more than 32,000 of its hybrid Jeep Wrangler SUVs because they pose a potential fire risk. As part of what the company described as a routine review of customer information, Stellantis determined that eight of the hybrid Wranglers had caught fire while they were turned off and parked. The recall covers 2021-2024 models of the Jeep Wrangler 4xe SUVs. All other Wrangler models have been deemed safe by Stellantis, which maintains its U.S. headquarters in Auburn Hills, Michigan. Stellantis plans to contact the owners of the SUVs that need to be fixed.

CNN —Toyota has joined the growing list of automakers that have decided to switch to using Tesla’s charging standard. Beginning in 2025 all Toyota electric vehicles sold in the US will have charging ports designed to work with Tesla’s North American Charging Standard (NACS), rather than the Combined Charging System plugs automakers in the US now use. Toyota’s announcement means that all of America’s best-selling automakers — Toyota ranks second only to General Motors in US sales — have agreed to switch to Tesla’s standard in the next few years. Tesla chief executive Elon Musk announced in November of last year that he was inviting other automakers and charging companies to adopt Tesla’s NACS. Major charging companies have announced they will offer both types of cables to service electric vehicles with either type of charging port.

DETROIT, Sept 20 (Reuters) - Talks were ongoing on Wednesday between union representatives and company management in the sixth day of the United Auto Workers strike at the Detroit Three automakers, a day after Ford (F.N) averted a walkout by Canadian workers. The UAW launched a strike against Ford, General Motors (GM.N) and Chrysler parent Stellantis (STLAM.MI) last week, targeting one U.S. assembly plant at each company. The UAW's coordinated U.S. action led to about 12,700 workers going on strike last week. Ford reached a last-minute deal to avoid a walkout at its Canadian operations late on Tuesday. Unifor, which represents about 5,600 Canadian auto workers, had been threatening to go on strike at all three of Ford's plants in that country if a deal was not reached by late on Tuesday.

DETROIT – Ford Motor avoided having to face labor strikes on both sides of the U.S.-Canada border Tuesday night, as the automaker and Canadian union Unifor announced a tentative deal covering 5,600 autoworkers in the country's Ontario providence. Unifor, which represents 18,000 Canadian workers at the Detroit automakers, took a more traditional approach to its negotiations than its U.S. counterpart did. The Canadian union picked Ford as its "target" company instead of following the UAW's new strategy of bargaining with all three automakers.

The nearly week-old United Auto Workers strike against Ford (F.N), General Motors (GM.N) and Stellantis (STLAM.MI) is viewed as a signal of the strength of the U.S. labor movement that has garnered national support from Americans. The UAW members from two striking plants gathered in Toledo were rolling out for the one-hour, 45-mile (72 km) drive to Wayne, Michigan, where Ford workers also walked off the job last week. In Michigan, Ohio and Missouri, the three states where workers are currently striking, models made by the Big Three dominate the leaderboard of new auto registrations. The United States is still the second-largest car market in the world, trailing only China. Union membership has fallen steadily over several decades in the United States.

Unifor, which represents about 5,600 Canadian auto workers, were threatening to go on strike at all three of Ford's plants in the country if a deal was not reached by 11:59 p.m. on Tuesday (0359 GMT on Wednesday). "We leveraged our union’s most powerful weapon: the right to strike," Unifor said of the tentative deal in a statement. The UAW has said it will announce strikes against more U.S. plants on Friday if no serious progress is made in talks with automakers.
